As we age, our skin loses its elasticity and creases deepen into lines that become permanently etched on our face. Botulinum toxins can help minimise the signs of ageing by softening lines caused by repeated facial expressions such as frowning, laughing or squinting. By temporarily relaxing these muscles using Botox®, your expression will be more relaxed and the lines will be greatly reduced – often eliminated, leaving you looking refreshed.
What is involved in a botulinum toxin treatment?
Tiny amounts of Botox® or Xeomin® are injected directly into the facial muscle underlying the creased area – it usually takes three to five small, almost painless injections, which are visually unnoticeable. Your appointment will take approximately 20 minutes. We have a powder room available for you to re-apply make-up before returning to your daily activities. Your result will be noticeable between three to fourteen days after treatment. The benefits usually last between three and six months. Botox® is also used to effectively treat axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating of the armpits).
There are 3 botulinum toxin brands approved by Medsafe in NZ. They are Dysport®, Xeomin® and Botox® . Each contains the botulinum toxin type A, but are manufactured in different ways. At Peak Appearance we offer patients the choice of Botox® or Xeomin® and are happy to discuss which of these we think is right for you.
